Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur promote Airlift on stand-up roast show Comedy Nights Bachao

(From left) Krushna Abhishek, Nimrat Kaur and Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar gives realism a suave twist in the upcoming biggie Airlift, and the superstar gave a glimpse of his all-new avatar when he arrived on the set of the popular stand-up roast show Comedy Nights Bachao, to shoot a special episode to promote the film.
Accompanying Akshay was co-star Nimrat Kaur, who returns to the Hindi screen after her much-feted role in The Lunchbox. Nimrat shed the middle-class homemaker image she portrayed in that globally awarded film, and opted for a pretty glam makeover in a printed dress.
The show is known for its irreverent humour and a rich stock of talented comedians who love taking the mickey out of the invited guests. The episode to promote Airlift was no different.
In sync with the theme of the film, a makeshift set denoted the interior of an aircraft. While Akshay and Nimrat took to the hot seat, the array of comedians arrived one by one to crack jokes -a few on Akshay and Nimrat and a lot on themselves.
Among the funniest gags as usual were a couple cracked by Krushna Abhishek and Bharti Singh (duly dressed like an airhostess at one point). In between all the laughter, the show hosts could not let superdancer Akshay leave without shaking a leg. A segment of the episode will see Akshay jiving to his hit number Hookah bar along with Anita Hasnandani, one of the popular faces on the show.
Letting her hair down, Nimrat too, let go of her arty image to groove a lot with Krushna. Later, she was also a part of a hilarious spoof set up by Krushna and Bharti, on her film The Lunchbox.
Airlift is slated to release on January 22 and marks the directorial debut of Raja Krishna Menon. The film is based on a true event and narrates the account of a brave Indian tycoon, played by Akshay, who rescued thousands of Indians stranded in Kuwait during the Iraq-Kuwait war.

Akshay Kumar would call me at 5 am for narrations

Though Raja Krishna Menon helmed the Purab Kohli and Nandita Das-starrer 'Bas Yun Hi' (2003) and 2009 film 'Barah Aana' starring Naseeruddin Shah and Vijay Raaz, the writer-director often finds himself being asked if he is new to the industry. For the past several years, Menon, who has an advertising background, had been piecing together the story of 'Airlift', inspired from the real-life drama surrounding the evacuation of Indian expatriates from Kuwait in 1990 when the country was invaded by Iraq. It is regarded as the biggest human evacuation in history, and the director can’t wait for his film, which stars Akshay Kumar in the lead, to reach the audience. hitlist caught him for a brief chat. Excerpts:
Akshay Kumar with Raja Krishna Menon on the set of their film
Akshay Kumar with Raja Krishna Menon on the set of their film
Q. You have been around for over a decade, but made only three films...
A. Because what works for me may not work for others. But now, I feel the market is more receptive to people like me. When 'Barah Aana' released, it was just after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. It was a small film, which travelled to film festivals and got a decent release. Aamir Khan helped a lot behind the scenes, so the film had its journey. For me, a film is a film; I do not know the difference between mainstream and not mainstream. For 'Airlift', I first narrated the story to co-producer Nikhil Advani through a common friend.
Q. Has being an ad filmmaker earlier helped you now in any way?
A. When you do ads with stars, the interaction is limited. Stars are under contracts with the companies. I am not sure being an ad film director is a positive thing, at least for me.
Q. What prompted you to tell the story of the human evacuation drama in Kuwait?
A. I had family members there who were affected. They would keep telling their stories. Then I would meet their friends who would relate their saga. They would show me their family albums and videos; that was the time Kuwait was the wealthiest country in the region. It was only around 2005 that I realised this was a story to be told. My wife’s aunt was an airhostess with Air India back then, so she has given a lot of first-hand information. The film is about knowing what it means to be an Indian, something that the present generation does not know. We are always complaining about things, but what are we doing? We can be the change, but only if we have a positive approach.
Q. How was it working with Akshay Kumar?
A. He would call me to his house at 5 am for narrations. By 11 am, we would finish off everything and I had a lot of time — the entire day — to concentrate on making the film. Even while shooting in Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah in the UAE, morning was always better for him.

After Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar donates Rs 1 crore for Chennai flood relief

Akshay Kumar

After the huge disaster caused by rains in Chennai recently, many celebrities have been extending help to those in need. While Shah Rukh Khan donated Rs 1 crore to the Chief Minister's Flood Relief Fund, it is now the turn of actor Akshay Kumar to pitch in. Akshay has joined the list of contributors by giving Rs 1 crore towards the flood relief activities in Chennai.
After seeing the shocking visuals of rain-affected Chennai, Akshay reportedly wanted to help the people and called director Priyadarshan asking how he could donate. Director Priyadarshan then asked him to contact Suhasini Maniratnam, who has been involved in flood relief work.
As per Suhasini's suggestion, he donated Rs 1 Crore to the Bhoomika Trust who has been working on food preparation and distribution in Chennai right from the day the disaster struck i.e. December 3. Director Jayendra who is the Managing Trustee of Bhoomika Trust, received the cheque.
The actor had also tweeted about the Chennai floods when the tragedy struck.
Akshay Kumar is currently acting in the Hindi remake of Kaththi, which is being directed by ace director AR Murugadoss.

Move over Khans, here's why Akshay Kumar is the star of 2015

It was Salman Khan, ever honest and not the least insecure about his rivals, who declared that among all his contemporaries Akshay Kumar has evolved the most.
Akshay Kumar is today the most watchable A-list star-actor in Bollywood. Unlike Shah Rukh and Salman Khan who, so far, have largely played variations of their own personality in their characters, Akshay has, over the years, developed an uncanny ability to create believable charismatic heroes who are not afraid to show their weaknesses in front of the camera.
In his latest film Airlift directed by a near-newcomer Raja Krishna Menon, we see Akshay break down and cry bitterly as Kuwait goes up in flames after Saddam Hussain’s attack in 1990. In that one moment, he encompasses all the vulnerability that makes him a modern-day hero without losing any of the inner strength and outer machismo that make him so connectable with audiences from every section.
Akshay in person remains remarkably unaffected by his stardom. He has evolved, yes. But he hasn’t changed. This author has known him for 16 years, and he remains exactly the same person he used to be when he was just about transitioning from wooden to pliable in Suneel Darshan’s Jaanwar.
Baby_380This determination to not forfeit his antecedents is a miracle in show business, where on the one hand Kapil Sharma and Nawazuddin have almost transform into starry monsters in no time.
Akshay never speaks ill of anyone. He never badmouths any of his colleagues, although we are close enough for him to do so without the risk of being exposed in the media. If being correct in his behavior makes him boring so be it. He would rather be described dull than evil.
Akshay’s choice of roles is impeccably versatile and he lets his work do the talking. In 2015, we saw him in four films. While two of them Gabbar Is Back and Singh Is Blingwere masala entertainers designed to showcase Akshay’s comic aptitudes, in Karan Malhotra’s Brothers he was a brooding ball of fire, trying to fight the ghosts of a terribly dysfunctional familial past.
But the film in 2015 that really showcased Akshay’s rapidly growing virtuosity wasBaby; an unassuming spy thriller directed by the versatile Neeraj Pandey. The film dealt with issue surrounding international terrorism, and it was coupled with a supple swagger that very few mass-entertainment films have been able to achieve in recent times. It’s an awards worthy performance because the actor nails his counter-terrorist hero’s role without attempting to scale larger-than-life dimensions in the way Saif Ali Khan did in Phantom.
To be able to harness the inner hero in himself and yet remain vulnerable is a not an easy task for any actor. Akshay achieves a rare synthesis of vulnerability and valour in his performances. In real life he remains a family man . His pride at his wife Twinkle’s success as a columnist and author is genuine. He sportingly allows his wife to bully him in public. But he knows when to assert himself without seeming a spousal tyrant. He is happiest when bonding with his two children Aarav and Nitara and the saddest when he has to work on a Sunday. Pretty regular stuff.
For a guy from Delhi who made a living as waiter in Bangkok, Akshay landed in Bollywood with no calling card. He was ridiculed for being wooden and flat-voiced by one and all but he's now arguably the most fit-and-fine star-actor of Bollywood.
Akshay loves to work with new directors. Raja Krishna Menon, who directs his latest film has to his credit only a small film titled Barah Aana. In Menon, Akshay sees a reflection of his struggling days when he arrived in Mumbai with nothing but a suitcase filled with dreams.
Along with Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay proves that the film industry can rise above clannish interests, provided the outsider is willing to slog it out until his makeover from a wannabe to a has-to-be is complete.

Bigg Boss 9: Akshay Kumar is Salman Khan’s co-host

Fans of Akshay Kumar, rejoice! It’s time to celebrate as Akshay Kumar is all set to co-host one episode of reality TV show Bigg Boss 9. The ‘Gabbar Is Back’ actor will ask the contestants some really tough questions about their rivalry with fellow housemates.
According to sources, the 48-year-old actor will promote his upcoming flick Airlift on the hit-reality series in January and will be seen grilling contestants, along with the Prem Ratan Dhan Payo star.
Directed by Raja Krishna Menon, the flick that also stars Nimart Kaur will hit the theaters on January 22.
Akshay and Salman have worked together in many films and some of them were really liked by the audiences. Their most popular film together is Mujhse Shaadi Karoge and thus the viewers would be expecting a throwback to some hilarious scenes from the film.
Last year, Salman Khan handed over the hosting job to filmmaker Farah Khan, but he is again back as the host in the new season.

I am very proud to be an Indian: Akshay Kumar

Interestingly, on the same day that Aamir Khan made headlines with his views on intolerance in India, actor Akshay Kumar said he is proud of his country. “I am very proud to be an Indian, and will always be,” said the actor.
Another issue that recently created a lot of buzz was artistes returning their awards. When asked to comment on it, Akshay says, “I believe one should not harm anyone or damage any property. Even if there’s a protest, it should be done peacefully.”
Over the last few years, Akshay has starred in several hits like Special 26 (2013), Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty (2014), Baby and Gabbar Is Back. And all these films have direct or indirect references to real-life incidents and people. Ask him why he is doing movies based on real-life incidents, and he says, “I really want to do such films. I find real stories extremely fascinating. I think I am in a position to choose the kinds of films I want to do.”The actor says that real stories are “interesting” to watch on the big screen. “You may have heard or read about real incidents or historical events, but watching them visually on screen is very interesting. For instance, if I were to show you on screen how Shivaji (Indian warrior king) fought valiantly in wars, you would be more interested,” says Akshay, whose next is also based on a real-life incident that took place in 1990 during the Gulf War.

Kudos' to Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff's Love of Action

Akshay Kumar

Bollywood's Khiladi, actor Akshay Kumar, took along a special guest with him to attend his 7th International Kudo Championship. It was none other than Heropanti actor Tiger Shroff. Kudo, for the uninitiated, is a mix of karate, judo, kick-boxing, Muay Thai and combat sports.
Akshay sponsored many children who were participating in the championship. He also shared an image of the youngest gold medalist of the competition:
Akshay, whose last film Singh Is Bliing didn't send cash registers ringing, will be back on January 26 with Raja Krishna Menon's Airlift. Tiger, meanwhile, is busy filming Sabbir Khan'sBaaghi and Remo D'Souza's superhero film Flying Jatt.

Akshay Kumar planning a sequel to Singh Is Bliing

Akshay Kumar planning a sequel to Singh Is Bliing

Everyone loved Akshay Kumar in the role of Raftaar Singh and he got tons of appreciation after the film released. The film was not only critically successful, but in fact it gave Akshay Kumar the biggest opening figures till date. So after the success of Singh Is Bliing, buzz is that Akshay Kumar wants to make a sequel to the film and the makers have already started thinking about the sequel.
As a source mentions, “Akshay Kumar really feels that a sequel to Singh Is Bliing should be made. He has already conveyed this to director Prabhudheva and told him to work on the story idea.”
The opening figures of the film were bigger than Akshay’s previous release Brothers and it did very well at the box office too. So, if a sequel is made then it will do well again. The film also featured Lara Dutta and Amy Jackson, but we are not sure if the makers will make the sequel with a similar story line. We are not even sure if they would start the story from where the prequel ended and if Amy and Lara would also be a part of the second film!
Currently, Akshay Kumar is shooting for an action-thriller Airlift with Nimrat Kaur  and Housefull 3featuring Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Abhishek Bachchan, Nargis Fakhri, Lisa Haydon and himself. Both the film will release in 2016.

Continuing Akshay, Rohit's legacy with 'Khatron Ke...': Arjun Kapoor

Actor Arjun Kapoor, who is making his small screen debut as a host of the seventh season of "Khatron Ke Khiladi", is not bothered by possible comparisons with the show's former hosts, actor Akshay Kumar and filmmaker Rohit Shetty. He says he's just continuing their "legacy" and will make his own mark.
Both Akshay and Rohit lent their trademark style to the seasons that they hosted, and took it to new heights.
So, asked if he is jittery about stepping into their shoes, Arjun told IANS: "I think the audience won't tend to compare...With Akshay and me, the age group is different...I don't think there will be a major comparison that way.
"He's (Akshay) somebody who has achieved a lot in his life. Rohit is also another fantastic personality, and I have my unique personality."
The "Gunday" actor added: "I'm continuing the legacy Akshay and Rohit have started... we all have our unique skills and personality. So hopefully, this time mine will come on the forefront."
"Khatron Ke Khiladi", an adaptation of the American television show "Fear Factor" which features celebrity contestants facing their fears, will this year be shot extensively in Argentina. Arjun is especially thrilled at the venue as this would be his first time in the South American country.
"This is my first time in Argentina and of course I am looking forward to going there. Normally you don't get to go to South America very often...even our films are not shot in those area in particular. So, of course it's exciting," he said.
Arjun, who has made his mark in Bollywood, had been on the lookout for a good opportunity to register his presence on the small screen.
Talking about what excited him about "Khatron Ke Khiladi", he said: "Firstly, it's a franchise and has an in-built love and recognition as a show.
"Secondly, it's a show where I get to be involved in everything -- whether it's the stunts, contestants, encouraging them, entertaining them, to being the taskmaster... you get to do everything on the show...it's not just about hosting," the "2 States" actor said.
On the silver screen, Arjun will be seen playing a house husband in R. Balki's upcoming film "Ki and Ka". The film also features actress Kareena Kapoor Khan.

Five Reasons Why Akshay Kumar’s Films Never Reach 100 Crore

In the last year, five of Akshay Kumar’s films have been endorsed by audiences at various levels while one (“The Shaukeens”) has flopped. But none of the hits have touched 100 crore in India, or done fab business overseas. Today a section of the media even calls him the 70-crore man at a time when even a 100-crore collection is losing its original value thanks to increased ticket rates.
Here are the key reasons why AK is AK-70 and not AK-100 in films as varied as “It’s Entertainment” (2014) and his four successes in 2015: “Baby,” “Gabbar Is Back,” “Brothers” and “Singh Is Bliing.”
1. Lack of Hunger for the Star
Thanks to a film coming out every three or four months, besides his appearances on television, at events and more, the audience’s hunger for Kumar is simply not there. So the varying kinds of films he does cease to matter. Today most superstars do one to two films a year, some even less.
2. Lack of Big Release Days
With the Khans annexing the only big seasons — Eid, Diwali and Christmas, Kumar is left with the balance. And trade experts opine that Kumar suffers here, as the remaining so-called prime dates are not really so. Trade analyst Amod Mehra points out that 90-plus crore for an overlong, dry, song-less subject released in January like “Baby” is “mind-blowing” and that Kumar should get the combo of a good movie and a prime date of release.
3. Price Factor and ROI
Though Kumar’s films rarely lose money, his high price changes the box office ratings of his films. And producers pay what he demands, because he guarantees a completed film and a quick release. Eleven years ago, the star had ensured that three derelict products did see the light of day, and he continues to be professional in that respect. A more reasonable pricing would help his films hugely though.
4. Heroines
Kumar’s stubborn wish to work with young, not-so-strong heroines reduces the face value of his movies for the audience. His recent co-stars have been Tamannaah, Madhurrima Tuli, Shruti Haasan, Jacqueline Fernandez and Amy Jackson.
5. Music

Kumar has set ideas about music and interferes in an area where he has little knowledge. As always, his music becomes a downer despite (or actually because of) the assorted music makers and overt Punjabi flavors besides an assortment of non-film, sometimes NRI music peddlars. Music has the potential to boost a theatrical opening, bring in repeat audiences, and contribute hugely to the revenue. This has not happened with Kumar in the last five years but for a film or two.

I want Akshay Kumar to walk around the Sky Tower in New Zealand, says Sidharth Malhotra

I want Akshay Kumar to walk around the Sky Tower in New Zealand, says Sidharth Malhotra

Last seen with Akshay Kumar in Brothers, Sidharth Malhotra is roped in as Tourism New Zealand's first ambassador from India. The 40 year old actor started his trip by walking about the perimeter of tallest building in Auckland at a height of 192 meters.
Malhotra says he will suggest Akshay Kumar to try this for sure.
On completing his first ever adventure activity in New Zealand, he said, "Walking around the Sky Tower, which is the tallest building in the southern hemisphere, was absolutely fantastic. I couldn't have asked for a better kick-start for my trip, literally felt like living life on the edge. I definitely recommend my brother Akshay (Kumar) to do this."
According to the sources, when Sidharth told his friends he is going to New Zealand; the first thing that they told him was to ensure he does as many adventure activities as possible. This is when the young 'Student of the Year' actor decided that he will begin his trip with an adventure.
As soon as he had his safety gear in place, Sidharth stepped on the narrow path-way only to realise that this is the best way to kick-start his New Zealand adventure. He had a bird eye's view of Auckland, its hills, the harbour and the islands beyond.
Sidharth will be next seen in Shakun Batra's Kapoor and Sons along with Alia Bhatt and Fawad Khan in lead role.

Singh Is Bliing box office collection: Here's how much Akshay Kumar's film has earned in a week

Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson in a still from Singh Is Bliing

Akshay Kumar's latest Bollywood outing, Singh Is Bliing, has been going quite strong at the box office ever since it was released. The film opened to a fabulous response at the ticket windows, with the first day pouring in Rs 20.67 crore. The second and third days saw a business of Rs 14.5 crore and Rs 19.27 crore respectively. In its first weekend itself, the film had managed to cross the Rs 50-crore mark at the India box office.

After the first weekend, Singh Is Bliing saw a drop in its collections, and the first Monday had only about Rs 7.1 crore. Now, at the end of Week 1, this Prabhudheva-directed film has earned Rs 78.10 crore, say reports.

Singh Is Bliing, which deals with the story of the happy-go-lucky Raftaar Singh and Sara, who comes to India to look for her mother, had received mixed reviews from critics after its release. The film is Akshay's fourth this year. Kumar had begun 2015 with Baby, followed by Gabbar Is Back, and then Brothers. Singh Is Bliing has earned more than what all his earlier films had done in the first week of their release.
Apart from Akshay Kumar, the film stars Amy Jackson and Lara Dutta in key roles.

In Singh is Bliing, Akshay Kumar's Raftaar is the heroine to Amy Jackson's heroic Sara

Back in 2000, the same year that Priyanka Chopra was crowned Miss World, Lara Dutta won Miss Universe and everyone thought a new star was born. At least, the crowned beauty and the industry did. The two pageant show winners co-starred in 2003 in their first film, Andaaz, opposite none other than Akshay Kumar. Dutta played the lead, who Kumar’s character is in love with, while Chopra played the supporting lead, who was supposed to be in love with Kumar.
Cut to 2015. Chopra is turning heads as the lead of Quantico, an American TV series. In sharp contrast, Dutta having been forgotten altogether (post flops, marriage and motherhood) makes a comeback in a supporting role opposite the same Kumar. Only now, Dutta is playing second fiddle to a British model and non-actress, Amy Jackson, in Prabhudheva’s Singh is Bliing. Fortune is a fickle mistress, it seems.

However, Dutta knows how to turn the tables. Her sidekick status is only on paper. Sure, she may not be the face on the posters and she isn’t the heroine whom both the hero and the villain covet in Singh is Bliing. But as far as grabbing the limelight goes, Dutta leaves the film’s official heroine way behind. She finally does what she is here for — to act. Dutta’s previous films, No Entry and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, had shown some of her potential at comic timing. In Singh is Bliing, they finally come to the fore.
Sporting bright, thick glasses and braided plaits, Dutta is almost unrecognisable as the Goan translator, Emily. Most appropriately, she is addressed in the film as “Imli” …thodi khatti, thodi meethi. She is overweight – just enough to look less attractive than the heroine; but sexy enough to attract two other men in the film. She's a little clumsy and scheming in a way that could be evil if she wasn't so thoroughly charming.
Sandwiched between the Kumar's Raftaar Singh and Sara the Indo-Romanian ninja, Dutta’s Emily makes the most of being the cheesy spread. Bright, floral, pink, pleated skirts; poorly matched yellow tops;navy blue jackets and over the top accessories like hairbands and large earrings may not do much for her sex appeal, but Dutta wears them with panache. Since she’s the via medium for the film’s romantic plot, she’s in almost every frame that Kumar and Jackson share, including the popular and hilarious “Dil kare chu che”. End result: her meaty part is far more chew-worthy than Jackson’s.
Any other actress might have asked for a romantic sub plot to justify her past star status. But, interestingly, Prabhudeva’s film makes no such attempt. Dutta doesn’t need a happy ending. She’s got enough good cheer and gusto to power her through one of the more cleverly written supporting roles in recent Hindi cinema.
She fulfills the comedic requirements with the same ease that she carries her slinky nightie, which is her sleepwalking uniform. Sashaying to gibberish lyrics and a tune that seesaws between the horrific and the comic, Emily is tempting enough to draw two men out of the comfort of their beds.
First, Raftaar’s friend – let’s call him Sidekick 1 – opens the door to see a smiling but blank ‘Imli’ standing at the door, in a sexy short nightie. She turns and walks, out of the house, towards a moonlit beach. Sidekick 1 follows, gleefully. In a beautiful long shot, Imli’s back is seen, sitting next to a small boat. Sidekick 1,hopefully sidles up to her. The camera doesn’t move, but Emily does. She picks up a coconut and slam dunks it, squashing both hopes and a very different variety of nuts. This exact same sequence is repeated with Raftaar’s other friend.
And with that, out goes the metaphorical image of the heroine who may be sexy but is made to sleepwalk through her roles. This Emily is no sex object, which she proves with the coconut used like a grenade.
While for Dutta, the added years have meant that she can show off her acting skills and not grab eyeballs merely because of her looks, the exact opposite seems to be happening with Akshay Kumar.
Taller, leaner, sexier, the 48-year-old Akshay Kumar cheerfully tries to pass off as a 20-something Sikh lad, relying upon colourful turbans, his giant grin and the phenomenal energy with which he dances the bhangra. Here’s the really amazing part: it sorta, kinda works.
In Dutta's case, she has to downplay her looks in order to prove she isn't a has-been in Bollywood. Kumar, on the other hand, appears to be doing the exact opposite. Simply put, he’s more endearingly handsome than he’s ever been. Kumar seems to understand that Raftaar is a sillier version of Rowdy Rathore, Prabhudheva and Kumar’s first big commercial, Hindi hit. So instead of trying to find depth or acting sequences, Kumar works with what god gave him. Kumar could make the Sikh attire the new sexy, which isn’t something that too many of us had imagined was likely. It’s purely superficial, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t pack a hormonal punch.
Plus there’s a lightness to his leaner physique and his movements that lend an easy, languid grace to his movements, whether he’s being hit on by a camel or walking a lion. Kumar leaves behind stunts and action to play Raftaar and instead casts himself as something of a marshmallow. He is happy to be beaten up for most part of the film and or stand aside, watching his lady love wear the boxing gloves. There’s even a scene in which Sara literally takes the driver’s seat. It also happens to require her to sit on Raftaar’s lap. The expression on Kumar’s face is better than that of a cat having got the cream.
In a way, Kumar is almost the heroine in the Singh is Bliing, until the end when his lion of Punjab roars and teaches villain Kay Kay Menon a lesson. This is a huge shift for a guy who has been known for being an action hero.
It isn’t until the end that Raftaar has to actually introduce himself in Singh is Bliing, and he says, “Singh, Raftaar Singh.” To which the villainous Mark (Kay Kay Menon, charming as a villain) responds with, “Bond. James Bond.”
And we all laugh, because Raftaar hasn’t exactly been the model of machismo.
Except in a few minutes, he pulls a stunt that would no doubt leave Mr Bond at a loss for words. He sends his steel kara flying like a rustic sudarshan chakra, and knocks out grown men. He charges at an army of armed goons, giving the term ‘going solo’ a whole new dimension. There are things he does with a pole that would make gymnasts gawk. And then there’s the episode with the bullet. Without giving anything away, let’s just say that the National Rifle Association of America may well champion Singh is Bliing for proving their motto that guns don’t kill people.
Singh is Bliing has become Kumar’s biggest Friday opener at Rs 20.67 crore. It seems India likes heroines who can take the mickey out of men and the idea of a hero who can play a heroine’s part.

Akshay Kumar to return to Awaraa Paagal Deewana sequel?

Akshay

It is common knowledge in the film industry that producer Firoz Nadiadwalaand Akshay Kumar had a fall-out afterHera Pheri and its sequel, so much so that Akshay has gone missing in the third Hera Pheri film which is now being shot. That is likely to change in the near future.
Apparently Firoz, fresh and happy from the success of Welcome Back is in the mood to make up with his old friend. According to sources Firoz has already approached Akshay with the olive branch, namely the sequel to their 2002 hit Awaara Paagal Deewana. And Akshay has agreed in principle to return to the sequel.
Firoz doesn't deny the likelihood of a rapprochement. "Akshay may be in Awara Paagal Deewana sequel. Akshay along with Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal and Johnny Lever are the core cast of the franchise." Director Vikram Bhatt will no longer be part of Awaara Paagal Deewana.

Bollywood Superstar Akshay Kumar Courts Controversy With 'Singh is Bliing'

Singh is Bliing

With more than 130 films under his belt, an enormous fanbase, and a wealth of cinema records and accomplishments, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar is at a point in his career where he doesn’t need to take risks to attract the spotlight of national attention. But with his latest film, the action comedy Singh is Bliing, Kumar and his filmmaker colleagues attracted a great deal of unwanted attention from India’s film Censor Board and from the country’s religious community. Sikh organization leaders had taken issue with several scenes they considered offensive, and it was only after a few cuts were made that the film was cleared with a ‘U/A’ certificate for its October 2nd national release.
The film, about a turban-wearing Punjabi named Raftaar Singh who falls in love with a foreign woman (played by British beauty Amy Jackson) despite not being able to speak her language, originally contained images that sparked controversy in India’s religious circles.  According to sources close to the picture, there were two scenes  to which Sikh organizations objected and which the censor board decided to delete from the film. One scene had Akshay Kumar using his holy kadaa (iron bangle) as a weapon and the other scene shows Kumar’s turban catching fire.
To his credit, Akshay Kumar handled the issue adroitly, calling leaders of various Sikh organizations from Punjab and Delhi to Mumbai for a private screening of Singh Is Bliing to discuss their concerns. A source said, “Rather than face protests a week before release Akshay wisely decided to take Sikh organizations into confidence now himself.”
Coincidentally and rather curiously, Kumar faced similar controversy with his 2008 action-comedy Singh is Kinng, which, despite the similar title, genre, and identically named lead character, is in no way related to Singh is Bliing. According to a report in India Today, Akshay said, “I’ve taken care of all things that I had not done duringSingh is Kinng. I don’t want to show anything that would hurt the Sikh community or any other Indian community, like they were during Singh is Kinng. I had said ‘sorry’ then as well. This time, I had one person from the committee keep a check on the movie.”

For those not familiar, Akshay Kumar is one of Bollywood’s most popular movie stars, and one of just four Indians on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list. In 2013, numerous Indian media outlets reported that the net box-office collections of Kumar’s films had crossed 20 billion rupees (US$300 million) and he was the first and the only Bollywood actor to achieve this feat. With a reported income of $32.5 million in 2014, the former chef ranked below his fellow film stars Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan, and a few notches above cricket immortal MS Dhoni on the Forbes list.

When a lion scared off 'Khiladi' Akshay Kumar

SINGH IS BLIING

When we met Akshay Kumar at SINGH IS BLIING promotions, we couldn't resist asking him if he is trying a new stunt in SINGH IS BLIING too. To this Akshay Kumar replied, “Yeah, I've shot with a lion. I'm not fighting with him, but he is sitting in my car just behind me.”

Akshay then narrated an incident that happened with him. He said, “You won't believe this incident which happened - the lion saw his own reflection on the windscreen and thought there was another lion. He got angry and hit the windscreen. The windscreen went flying and I ran away from him. A person there tried to convince me saying, ‘You are the Khiladi' and I said,‘Khiladi Gaya Tel Lene' (To hell with Khiladi). A person from the crew then said, ‘He won't harm you' and I said ‘Main Jaa Hi Nahi Raha Uske Paas. Paagal Hai Woh. Maar Vaar Dega Kisi Ko. Film Ki Beginning Mein Meri Photo Aayegi Ki Bhaisaab Gaye The Sher Ke Saath Kaam Karne.' (I'm absolutely not going to him. He's mad, will kill someone. My photo will come in the film's beginning claiming that I expired while working with a lion).”

Akshay later showed the media a very cute photo with ‘Nafasa' (the good-looking lion) and even believed that we would fall in love with the lion (which was somewhat true).

“He's a fully-grown lion, very lovable. But you are taking a risk sitting with him. Anytime, usko Zara Mood Nahi Kiya Aise Bhi Haath Kar Lega (if he's not in mood and will swing his paw) and you're gone,” added Akshay.

We're just glad that ‘Khiladi' Akshay Kumar took up the challenge and finally completed his shot with the lion. Maybe that's what a good actor is like…
